Date of Passing: Oct 31, 2000
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTEOFILA BIBIK It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our mother, grand-mother and great-grandmother Teofila Bibik, on Tuesday, October 31, 2000 at the Grace Hospital. Teofila will be greatly missed by her children, Jerzy and wife Mary, Barbara (Malkiewicz) and her husband Kaz and Andy and wife Janie; grandchildren, Renata, Michelle, Celina, Mark, Tom and his wife Joanne, Kathy and her husband Wesley, Patricia, Kenneth, Michael, Deanne and Kristin; as well as her great-grandchildren, Christopher, Alexandra and Angela. Teofila was born on June 8, 1916 in Slawniow, Poland. During the Second World War, she was a member of the Polish Underground. Her ambition was to be a nurse, however, the fact that she felt faint at the sight of blood made her change her plans and become an underground courier. In 1953 her husband Konstanty, who also was a member of the Polish Underground, had to flee Poland. That left her on her own to take care of her three children. She was always fiercely independent and from the earliest times she showed entrepreneurial skills. On immigrating to Canada, in 1957, she opened a grocery store and a lunch bar in Sudbury, Ontario and later, upon arrival in Winnipeg, she was an owner of a grocery store/lunch bar and later, an owner, manager and a superintendent of an apartment block. She did most of her own repairs and laughed that in her purse instead of money and childrens pictures she carried "screwdrivers and a monkey wrench." She was a member of the Polish Combatants Association Br. No. 13 and the Polish Womens Federation Br. No. 7. During the War Measures Act in Poland she organized a committee which sent medical and surgical supplies to Poland and helped new immigrants with acclimatization to life in Canada. For her community work she has received Bronze, Silver and Gold Crosses from the Polish Combatants Association and a Commemorative Medal from The Canadian Polish Congress. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 4 at 11:00 a.m., in the Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave,. with Rev. Fr. Kazimir Kozicki, O.M.I., presiding. Viewing will be held one half hour prior to Mass. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Teofilas memory may be made to The Parkinson Foundation of Canada, 825 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB., R3A 1M5. Our family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of Charleswood Care Centre for their friendly and helpful service which made the last year of Teofilas life peaceful and enjoyable.
