Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJANET TRAVIS (GRANNY) AUGUST 9, 1908 - OCTOBER 30, 2000 Passed peacefully in her 93rd year at Hawthorne Care Centre, Port Coquitlam, B.C. Born August 9, 1908 (Ewhanjina Baraniecki) in Winnipeg to pioneer Ukrainian Canadians. Janet attended Strathcona Elementary, graduated from St. Johns Tech in 1926 and married Michael Travis in 1928. A single parent, Janet worked for the Western Paper Box Co., in Winnipeg from 1940 to 1969 without missing a day. Since her retirement Janet enjoyed life in Calgary, Texico New Mexico and Port Coquitlam. Granny will be missed by those she touched with her Joi dVie, witty repartee and wry sense of humour. She was predeceased by husband Mike in 1958; daughter Donna in 1970; son Donald in 1991. She leaves to remember one son Gordon (Sandra) of Maple Falls, Wa., daughter-in-law Arlene of Tacoma, Wa., grandchildren, Mike of Toronto, Robbie and Graham Robinson of Winnipeg and Calgary, Gord Jr., of Port Coquitlam, B.C., and Allison (Steve) Smith of Graham, Wa.; nieces and nephews, Frank (Connie) and Brian (Elsie) White of Vancouver and Winnipeg, Rev. Ken (Sandy) Pawluk of Selkirk, Man., Claudia (Larry) Westbrooke of Victoria and Joan (Adam) Pondo of Winnipeg; eight great-grandchildren from Toronto to Tacoma. Interment will be with her family in Brookside Cemetery, Winnipeg. An open memorial service will be held at that time. Gary Yuzik, Whispering Pine, Port Coquitlam Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, Diabetes Foundation or Charity of choice. The family extends thanks to special friend Connie Herriot and the care givers at Hawthorne Centre for making Grannys last days as comfortable and as dignified as possible.
