Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM PHILIPOVICH Peacefully, following a brief illness, it is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of William Philipovich, with his family by his side on Tuesday, October 31, 2000, at Seven Oaks General Hospital. William will be lovingly remembered by his wife of sixty-two years Marion; daughter Donna and son Bill; granddaughters, Jennifer and Tanya and his sister Anna Goyan as well as many nieces and nephews. William is predeceased by his son David; sisters, Katie Godziuk and Mary Krankowski and his brother Andrew. William was born April 12, 1915 in Lake Eliza, Alberta. He was the son of Elena and Ilko Philipovich, who had immigrated to Canada. He excelled in sports as a young man and also showed an early love of Ukrainian culture. In 1934, he began what was to be a sixty year career as a teacher and conductor of Ukrainian language, theatre, dance, choir and orchestra in towns and cities across Canada including Edmonton, Vancouver and Winnipeg. He dedicated his life to the preservation of the Ukrainian culture and heritage through his involvement in the Association of United Ukrainian Canadians (AUUC) and its predecessor, the Ukrainian Labour and Farmer Temple Association (ULFTA). William served in the Second World War with the First Canadian Parachute Battalion and saw active service in Western Europe including the Battle of the Bulge. Following the war, he pursued formal music studies at the Hamilton Conservatory of Music and resumed his cultural work. He settled in Winnipeg in 1967 and for over twenty-five years was choral director of the Lesya Ukrainka Senior Citizens Choir. His family wishes to thank the staff of the Seven Oaks General Hospital Intensive Care Unit and the fifth floor, unit 3 nursing staff. A gathering and interment will take place on Monday, November 6, at 11:00 a.m. in the Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. I am not sure that Mr. Philipovich's his son, Bill, is the person I worked with at Michaleski Design in Winnipeg for 5 years (1978-1983), but if so, I offer my sincere condolences. I would also like to extend a most heartfelt invitation to Bill to please contact me. A dearer friend, I never had. I regret that we have not kept in touch, but it would mean the world to me if I could say hello in person and have a chat. Lynne Goldring is still a dear friend and would also love to say hello. My deepest sympathy for your loss, Andy Stout - Posted by: Andy Stout (Friend of his son, Bill.) on: May 22, 2019
