FRANK HLUBUCEK It is with the deepest sorrow that the Czech and Slovak Association of Canada (Winnipeg branch) announces the passing of long time member and president Frank Hlubucek, October 19, 2000. He was born in the Czech Republic on April 8, 1921. He left the country after the communist putsch in 1949, and by 1953 had come to Winnipeg where he spent the rest of his life. He was an artist who devoted his life to the promotion of Czech and Slovak heritage and culture in Canada. On September 19, 2000 Mr. Hlubucek left Winnipeg to visit his country of origin. We regret that we cannot welcome him back. A memorial service will be held November 12, at 5:00 p.m. at Holy Ghost Church (enter from the parking lot on Pritchard Ave.) Participants are then invited to the Czecho-Slovak Benevolent Association Club, 154 McKenzie St., for a special reception in his memory.
