Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJUDY McCONNELL On Friday, November 3, at the age of 82, Judys indomitable spirit finally succumbed to cancer at Riverview Centre. Judy will be lovingly remembered by her husband Keith; son Bruce, daughter-in-law Shirley and the Peterson family; her sister Betty and sons, Rick (Thunder Bay) and John (Portage la Prairie) and families; Jean Nelson and family (California) Lorne Coddington and family (Vancouver) and her many supportive friends. She was predeceased by her son Richard in 1976; her brother Paul in 1987; brother-in-law Fred in 1993 and sister-in-law Jessie in 1995. Judy was born in Winnipeg December 24, 1917, where she was raised by her parents, Stanley and Olive Osborne. Following school she worked at radio station CJRC where she met Keith. As she later described: "I chased him til he caught me!" They were married January 3, 1942, honeymooned in Montreal, and lived for the next two years in Victoria and Vancouver where Keith was stationed with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. At this time and during Keiths subsequent posting to Europe, Judy was involved with the Red Cross Canteen in support of the war effort. In 1950 they settled into a new home in Fort Garry where Judy raised her two sons and developed a passion for curling and golf as a member of the Wildewood Club. At "the club" she treasured numerous close friendships while both playing and serving on the executive of the sports she so loved. As well, Judy enjoyed the camaraderie of her many bridge club friends. Travel was always a favourite - whether an out-of-town bonspiel, bridge club junket, or many years of family summer vacations to Detroit Lakes. In later years she loved her trips with Keith, Bruce and Shirley, including golf road trips, visiting relatives in Vancouver and California, and especially enjoying the sun and rum in Barbados. In 1997 Judy and Keith moved to Southpark Estates where new friendships were developed. All of Judys family and friends will never forget her strong will, sense of humour and zest for life. During her illness, Judy was fortunate to be cared for by so many dedicated and supportive staff from Home Care, Cancer Care, Womens Pavilion W5, and Riverview Centre E3. Cremation has taken place and a service in Judys honour will be held Tuesday, November 7, 11:00 a.m. at St. Pauls Anglican Church, 830 North Dr., Fort Garry. Refreshments will follow in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice.
