PATRICK GALLAGHER
Born: Nov 20, 1918
Date of Passing: Nov 03, 2000
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPATRICK GALLAGHER Peacefully in the afternoon of November 3, 2000, our father and best friend, passed away at the Grace Hospital at the age of 81 years. He was born on November 20, 1918, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife Victoria and his parents, Fred and Evangeline; one brother Paul, and three sisters, Andre, Louise and Francis. He is survived by his three daughters, Lori Parker (husband Barry Parker and granddaughter Samantha), Jo Anne Gallagher (Terry Clarke and sons Trenton and Jessie) and Terry Gallagher. Dad grew up in the Fort Rouge area and attended school at St. Pauls Academy. Patrick enlisted in the Canadian Air Force in 1940, and served as a navigator over the skies in England and North Africa and was honourably discharged in 1944. Upon his return to Canada after the war, he then met and fell in love with Victoria who he then married. They were blessed with a loving marriage and three daughters. Patrick was a devoted husband and father. He worked at Singer Sewing Machines, Crescent Creameries and then the Winnipeg School Board until retirement. Throughout his adult life he loved the outdoors and spent as much time as possible fishing with his buddies. The remainder of his time was spent with his family - mostly fixing his daughters cars. Patrick had a stroke in 1987, and has resided in Deer Lodge Centre since that time. He always looked forward to his weekends which were spent at home or at the lake with his family. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 7 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. The family would like to express our thanks to the staff at both Deer Lodge and the Grace Hospital for their care. Special thanks to his nurses at Deer Lodge, Cindy, Kim and his newest friend Casey. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Childrens Hospital in Patricks memory would be appreciated. "THE PILOT POET" by John McGee Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward Ive climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hovring there, Ive chased the shouting wind along and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air... Up, up the long, delirious burning blue Ive topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace, Where never lark, or even eagle flew - And, while with silent, lifting mind Ive trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand and touched the face of God. Good Bye Dad, we love you and will miss you. We hope you and Mom are fishing as we speak. Arrangements in care of: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home Cemetery & Crematorium 885-9715
