VERNER "VERN" JOHN FALK After a courageous battle with cancer, on Friday, November 3, 2000 at the Victoria Hospital, Winnipeg, Verner "Vern" John Falk of Portage la Prairie, beloved husband of Joan Falk, father of Kris, Jason and Lindsay, passed away at the age of 55 years. Funeral service will be held at the Portage Alliance Church on Wednesday, November 8 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Jerry Orthner officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Vern was born in Portage la Prairie, son of Katherine and the late John Falk. He was raised on the family farm in the Westbourne District where he also received his education. In 1967 he married Joan White and together they purchased their own farm near Westbourne, where they raised their three children. In 1993 Vern and his family moved to Portage where he was employed at Munro Farm Supplies. Vern was a member of Ducks Unlimited for the past 18 years, establishing many committees at the local and zone levels. He was District Chair and on the provincial council. In honour of his long and dedicated service as a tireless volunteer, in August at Lynchs Point, the pump house was dedicated to honour his work. He was active in the MacGregor Minor Hockey Association as coach for his sons hockey teams. In the wintertime he was a commercial fisherman on Lake Manitoba. He truly loved the special times with his family whether it was going ice fishing with his daughter Lindsay or golfing with Kris and Jason. He also loved to travel and enjoyed the trips he went on with his wife and family, like the ones to Vegas and especially the big family trip they took this past spring. Predeceased by his father John; sister Eleanor, he leaves to mourn his passing his wife Joan; sons, Kris (Dawn) of Grand Forks; Jason (Nadine) of Neepawa and his daughter Lindsay of Winnipeg; his mother Katherine Falk. also surviving is his brother Harry Falk of Westbourne; Fred Dueck of Sanford; brothers-in-law, Bill (Margaret) White of Edrans, MB, Ron (Lorna) White of Portage; sister-in-law Arlene White (Dave) of Saskatoon; parents-in-law, Phyllis and Cyril White of Portage and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by family and his various friends from all walks of life.
