GUDRUN ARNBJORG STEVENS Peacefully with her children at her side on Sunday, November 5, 2000 at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli, Gudrun Stevens, age 86 years, widow of Lawrence Stevens. Runa was born in Gimli on September 9, 1914 and resided there all her life. She was very active in Icelandic Cultural Affairs and was proud to be named Fjallkona of the Icelandic Festival in 1963. She was a member of the Icelandic National League, secretary of the Icelandic National Festival, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 50 years, a former member of the Kinette Club for 20 years and a member of the Lutheran Church Council for 7 years. She also taught an Icelandic Choir which sang at the Icelandic Festival twice. Runa was predeceased by her husband Lawrence in 1996, her parents J.B. and Bina Johnson, her brothers, Barney, Helgi and Johann, and her sister Laura McCarthy. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jon (Shirley), Barney (Deb) and Lynda (Earl) Sontag; her grandchildren, Vincent, John, Dennis, Hollie, James, Jason and Patrick; her great-grandchildren, Zachary, Jarrett, Violet and Ryan; her brother Simbi Johnson and her sisters, Pauline Morse, Bina Cleghorn and Jonina Silvester. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, November 8 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gimli Lutheran Church with Pastor George Johnson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Health Centre Fundraising Initiative, Gimli, (Additions and Renovations), Box 1710, Gimli, MB R0C 1B0.
