KARL WILHELM GOHL Peacefully, on November 7th, 2000 at Kin Place Personal Care Home, Karl passed away three days before his 94th birthday. Karl will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 62 years Anna; son Karl; daughters Elizabeth (Andre) Lansard, Diana (Arthur) Laliberte, Elaine (Jock) McKay; his grandchildren, Carl Gohl, Lisa (Bryce) Kohlmeier, Laura Gohl, Edward Gohl, Leah Lansard, Cheney Lansard, Buddy (Jacqueline) Laliberte, Daniel (Nadine) Laliberte, Pauline McKay, Jonathan McKay and five great grandchildren, Nathaniel, Kristen, Darryl, Cody and Amber. Karl was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and four sisters. He has one surviving sister Luise Schaal in Germany and numerous nieces and nephews. Karl was born November 10, 1906 in Zuffenhausen, Germany. As a young man he excelled in sports, especially gymnastics and wrestling and he maintained his interest in physical activity and sports into his senior years. In his 80s he had Blue bomber season tickets and was a proud fan at the first Grey Cup game held in Winnipeg. Even a week before his death, he held ones hand in a firm strong grip. When he turned 20 he immigrated to Canada and worked at his trade as a wagon maker for a family firm in Brodhagen, Ontario. Members of this family remained his life long friend. Karl spent several winters cutting bush in the forests of Ontario and summers and falls on the farms in Saskatchewan and Alberta, especially during harvest. One summer, he worked on a farm in Manitoba where he met his future wife, Anna. They settled in Prairie Grove, where he farmed until his retirement at 80 years of age. His children have many happy memories of him on the farm. Daddy travelled across all parts of Canada from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland. He even travelled to Inuvik in the North West Territories (as they were known then) during the years he worked as a roofer with Superior Roofing and later Transcona Roofing. He and Anna went on many holidays to other parts of the world and he especially loved their annual holiday in Hawaii. Grandpa loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, tossing a frisbee or baseball, playing cards, checkers, chess, or arm wrestling. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 10, at 11:00 a.m. in Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. No. 1 East at Navin Road, with Rev. Fr. Sabastian Gacki presiding. Interment will follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Karls memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba Inc., 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2. The family would like to extend thanks to East Gate Lodge in Beausejour and Kin Place Personal Care Home in Oakbank for their care. "HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED AND LOVINGLY REMEMBERED."
