RAY "BOOM" BEAQUE After a brief but courageous battle with cancer, on November 8, 2000 at Beausejour District Hospital, Ray Beaque, beloved husband of Phyllis, father of Jim (wife Donna, children Kimberley, Kendra) and Ken (children Ainsley, Jennifer, Brent and Ashley) passed away just short of his 78th birthday. Dad was predeceased by his father, mother and four brothers (Dave, John, Vern and Bob). Besides his immediate family he leaves to mourn his passing brother Norm (Ollie) and two sisters Bev (Wally) and Rose (Rudy) sister-in-law Dorothy, Joanne, Dot and Anne as well as his four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. After his family Dad lived to serve his community and especially children. Always quick with a joke, hug or candy "Boom" the Komedian loved his circus, parades and visits to see children in hospitals throughout the province. As recently as two months ago Dad was still a volunteer driver for the cancer society. Besides the Shrine where he proudly served the Komedian unit Dad was an active member of the Scottish Rite and the Fort Garry Masons (Past Master). On Saturday, November 4, 2000 he proudly received his 50 year jewel. In his early years he was very active in Old St. Andrews United Church and still proudly has friends from that wonderful time. Dad had many careers, through necessity, he left school early to deliver telegrams for C.P. Rail on his bicycle. He worked at Winnipeg Electric, Canadian Armed Forces, Motor Coach Industries, Central Park Lodge (Toronto), Victoria Hospital and lastly as the Chief Administrator of Beausejour and Whitemouth Hospitals. Dad cherished his 12 years in Beausejour and the family was so pleased that he ended his days under the loving care of Dr. Fred Zeiler and the outstanding hospital staff. Dad also served as the chair at the M.H.O. and was for many years on the Boards of both Riverview Health Centre and The Middlechurch Home. Throughout his life dad gave generously to many charities and never turned his back on anyone in need. Dad and Mom enjoyed 55 loving years together. Many of them at Winnipeg Beach and in Florida. Family and countless friends including his Monday morning coffee crew, "the Senate", will sadly miss him. Dads work on this earth is done but I know that somewhere with a smile, a joke and a candy he is entertaining a crowd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Khartum Shrine Patient Transportation Fund, 1155 Wilkes Ave., Winnipeg, R3P 1B9 or to the Childrens Wish Foundation, 350 St. Mary Ave., Winnipeg, R3C 3J2 or to a charity of choice. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 13 at the Thompson Funeral Chapel, 669 Broadway at Sherbrook, the Rev. Peter Douglas officiating. The service will terminate in the chapel. Kerrs Funeral Chapel is in care of arrangements, phone 943-6688.
