GERTRUDE ANNA HELEN BLAICH On November 8, 2000, our loving mother and grandmother, Gertrude Anna Helen Blaich, passed away peacefully at the Birch Lodge in Hamiota, MB. She was in her 102nd year. Her husband Oswald predeceased her in 1979. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Oswald of Alexandria, VA and Alfred (Mary) of Winnipeg. There are six grandchildren, Linda of Springfield, VA, Anne of Winnipeg, Kenneth of Calgary, Timothy of Dryden, Holly of Mississauga and Robert of Winnipeg. There are nine great-grandchildren, Justin, Graeme, Jeff, Christina, Julie, Eric, Colleen, Devon and Dylan and one great-great-grandchild, Justin Helm. She was born in German in 1899 and immigrated to Canada with her son Oswald in 1932, to join her husband who had come two years before. She worked as a domestic for a short time before the family settled on a farm at Beulah on "The Plains". During the three years at Beulah, through drought and depression, she helped the family income by sewing for many people in the community. In 1937 the family moved to the Arrow River district where she and her husband farmed until she and Oswald retired and moved to Miniota in 1969. Through the years Gertrude was very active in the W.I. and 4-H sewing clubs, and opened her home to many young ladies of the community, teaching them to sew and helping them to grow up. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Hamiota Birch Lodge for the thoughtful and competent care they provided during the last few years of her life. A special thank you to "Dr. Ed Hudson" who contributed to her continuing good health, which allowed her to reach the grand age that she achieved. Funeral services will be held at the Miniota United Church, Miniota, MB, on November 13 at 2:00 p.m. Interment following in the Miniota Cemetery. For those desiring, donations may be made in Gertrudes memory to the M.S. Society CAMPBELL FUNERAL HOME Hamiota, MB 1-204-764-2744
