STANLEY (LOU) GIBSON TAYLOR Peacefully, on Wednesday, November 8, 2000 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, Lou passed away at the age of 72 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Marlene and his family; daughter Bev (Rick) Lisowski of McCreary and their children, Amy, Marla and Megan; Joan (Gord) McNamee of Brandon and children, Taylor and Chloe; daughter Brenda (Russ) Olson of Sechelt, B.C. and children, Morgan and Darby, and son Donald of Edmonton and his children, Victoria, Nicole and Spencer. Lou was predeceased by his parents, Septimus and Christina Taylor; brothers, Harold and Russell. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister Nancy Taylor of Minnedosa, Man. He will also be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good friends. Lou was born November 15, 1927 in Minnedosa, Man. From the age of 16 he worked for the C.P.R. as a relief agent, telegraph operator and dispatcher, retiring after 42 years in 1986. He received golf clubs as a retirement gift and along with other retired railway buddies he made golf his passion during the summers. In their early retirement, Lou and Marlene traveled to Europe, southern U.S., Mexico, Alaska and B.C. Years ago, the Canadian government considered the Turks and Caicos Islands to become a Canadian vacation destination. It was dads goal to visit this island as this interested him greatly. They visited this beautiful island in 1989. He was so impressed by his visit that he wrote letters to the government to pursue their idea of a Canadian "Hawaii". Lou enjoyed spending time with his family, watching hockey, curling, and morning coffee with his friends. He was a member of the C.P.R. Pensioners Group. On February 12, 1982, Lou rescued a baby from the burning house next door and received a Certificate of Merit Award from the City of Winnipeg for his act of bravery. It was his nature to help others and you could often find him making a pot of homemade soup to bring to a friend. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Monday, November 13 at McClure United Church, 533 Greenwood Place, Winnipeg, Man. A graveside service will follow on Tuesday, November 14 at 1:30 p.m., in Minnedosa, Man.
