ELMER KENNETH BROWN It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and granddad, Elmer Brown on Friday, November 10, 2000 at the age of 61 years, after a brief, courageous battle with cancer. Elmer leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Anne; his son Tony, Winnipeg; his daughters, Cynthia Powell (Jim), Regina and Sandra Hewitt (Stephen) Winnipeg. As well he leaves his eight grandchildren, Rebecca and Carissa Brown, Michael, Sarah and Christopher Powell and Jason, Amber and Justin Hewitt. Elmer is also survived by his brothers, Gordon (Carol) of Riding Mountain, Stan and Doug of Arden and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Margaret and his brother Henry. Elmer was born in Birnie, Man. He received his education in McCreary. In the late 50s he moved to Winnipeg to pursue his career in the Construction Supply Industry where he worked for over 40 years with a number of companies including Grace Construction, Superior Concrete, Anchor Construction Industrial Products and very briefly with MI Construction Supply. His greatest joy in his work was meeting people and he enjoyed a good rapport with his many customers. Elmer served over 15 years in the Canadian Militia with 10 Independent Signal Squadron and 735 Communications Regiment. It was in the Militia that he met his wife Anne. Elmer was a man of dignity, integrity and kindness. A gentle man always willing to lend a hand. He loved the outdoors, nature and animals. He was a member of the Order of Good Cheer. In his lifetime he donated 165 pints of blood to the Canadian Red Cross. His many hobbies included woodworking, travelling and he was an avid reader and fan of military history. Above all Elmer loved and took great pride in his family. We are so grateful for the time that we got to spend with him for the life lessons that he taught us and the people he helped us become. He leaves a legacy of love, thoughtfulness and generosity which will always be remembered by those who knew him. His quick wit, knowledge and advice on almost any topic will be missed. With respect to Elmers wishes cremation has taken place. Following a private interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, a celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 16 at the Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Dr. The family wishes to thank all the staff at the Grace General Hospital involved in Elmers care and support during his illness. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations may be made in Elmers memory to the Grace General Hospital, 300 Booth Dr., Wpg, MB R3J 3M7 or to the Canadian Cancer Society (Research Division), 193 Sherbrook St., Wpg, MB R3C 2B7.
