CYNTHIA GUSHULIAK On Thursday, November 9, 2000 Cynthia Gushuliak passed away at her Winnipeg residence at the age of 81 years. In 1919 she was the seventh born of nine children to Maria and Teoder Elyk, who had immigrated from Lukiwce, Austria. Cynthia resided in Sirko, MB most of her life, where she met, married and farmed with Nick Melnechuk. Later in life, she and her husband Bill Gushuliak lived for several years in Sundown, MB where she enjoyed travelling with Bill. Following Bills passing, Cynthia moved to Winnipeg where she has since resided. Predeceased by her parents Maria and Teoder, infant brother Alexander, sisters, Katherine and Dorothy and brothers, Nick, Matt and Bill, Cynthia is survived by her brother George (Rose) of Winnipeg; sister Sophie Rentz of Woodridge, MB; sister-in-law Olga Elyk of Winnipeg, and numerous nieces and nephews. Cynthia was very proud of her Ukrainian culture and heritage. She prized her traditional Ukrainian hand stitched blouse, flower head wreath and skirt. It was important for her to follow the many traditions of her ancestors passed down to her by her parents. Cynthia enjoyed gardening, canning and preserving and was an excellent cook and homemaker. She loved visiting and entertaining friends and relatives as long as she was able. Cynthia will be remembered for her warm hospitality from years past. She enjoyed dancing all of her life. The Funeral Service will be held in the St. Elias Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Sirko, MB, on Tuesday, November 14 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Myron Posniak officiating. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Loewen Funeral Chapel of Steinbach (1-204-326-1351).
