WAYNE BARRY MACDONALD August 31, 1940 - November 10, 2000 It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Wayne, beloved husband of Shirley (Huppe) and loving father to Clinton (Michelle and son Zack), Melody Becker and husband Dan, foster son Anthony Monias and his precious grandson Carter Becker whom he loved dearly. Wayne was born in Winnipeg to James and Irene MacDonald (Arsenych) and is now reunited with them as well as his grandparents, Judge J.W. and Olga Arsenych and Uncle Myron Arsenych. Wayne was struck with polio at the tender age of two and was left totally paralysed. He was the first person to receive the Nurse Kenny Treatment and he recovered completely. Wayne and Shirley were married at St. Marys Cathedral on December 17, 1966. Although their dance ended abruptly their love song will continue through eternity. Wayne was employed at the Stony Mountain Penitentiary from 1964 until 1982 and then transferred to Rockwood Institution where he worked until his retirement in 1998. Always in service to others he continued to work part time for MacDonald Youth Services as a Youth Care Worker until he decided to become a full time foster parent. Wayne was a member of the Masonic Temple, the Royal Canadian Legion of Stony Mountain and the Public Service Alliance of Canada. An excellent marksman he was a member of the Winnipeg Gun Association and won many trophies, both in Canada and the U.S.A. Always a social butterfly, Wayne held an open heart in words of wisdom for everyone he encountered. As a father he never missed an opportunity to support his children in any and all of their interests. He gave his love, he gave his time, he gave all he could. No one could ever have asked for more. When he left our world he offered his eyes as a gift so that another person might see. At work he was respected and loved by both staff and inmates as well as the many children and staff at MacDonald Youth Services. He will be sadly missed. Perhaps Waynes greatest gift was his ability to accept each person for who they were always seeing their light and never standing in judgement. Also left to mourn are Uncle Paul (Pauline) Arsenych, Uncle Steve, Aunt Ona (Bill) Pike, Aunt Irene and Ryan Arsenych, as well as many brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Carole Huppe, Don and Cathy Huppe, Stan and Julie Huppe, and Larry Ober along with numerous nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his dear friends, John Klassen and Oscar Kjear and surrogate father Del Stevens and his wife Helen. Also grieving will be all of his coffee buddies (Yes! that means you!). The memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 16 at 1:00 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Stonewall. An aboriginal blessing will follow. All who attend will be considered honorary pallbearers. An Honor Guard will pay tribute to his life. Refreshments will follow at the Stonewall Legion. It was Waynes desire to be cremated and his ashes will be distributed by his family. Donations to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation would be appreciated in his memory. "Calling Water", with love we release your body back to the Earth and with love we release your spirit to the Wind. Until we meet again. Thank you for your love. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
