RUTH D. MacKAY Peacefully with her family at her side, Ruth MacKay passed away at the Riverview Health Centre on November 12 at the age of 72. Ruth is survived by her sons, Peter and Ross (Laurel) grandchildren. Marcus, Erin and Megan MacKay; sisters, Mary Boomer, Ethel Stewart, Joan Sutherland, Kathy (Don) Thompson and numerous nieces and nephews. Her parents, William and Ethel Fawns, sisters Anne Fawns and Gladys Partridge and her beloved husband Hector predeceased her. Mom was born in Winnipeg on October 19, 1928, the fifth of seven daughters to William and Ethel Fawns. She resided in the citys west end all of her life. Mom had numerous jobs after completing Grade XI at Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. She finally decided on a career at the Winnipeg School Division Number 1 where she worked part time while her sons were in school. Mom returned to full time work at General Wolfe School, Hugh John MacDonald and finishing at R.B. Russell where she retired from in 1989. Moms retirement years were especially busy. She spent as much time as possible at her cabin at White Lake during the summer. Volunteering at Sargent Park School on Wednesday afternoons was something that Mom always looked forward to doing. Mom also like playing the occasional quarter at the slot machines at McPhillips Street Station. Mom took a couple of trips in her retirement years, but the one she always spoke about was the one back to the old country with her sister Kathy. Special thanks to the staff of 3E at the Riverview Health Centre for their care and compassion during Moms short stay. A special thank you to Cousin Anne (Goddaughter) for her love and support through three long nights. In keeping with Moms wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 16 in the Thomson Funeral Chapels with the Reverend Doug Flint (retired) officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made in Ruths memory to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation, 1 Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3L 2P4. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
