LORAIN NILSSON After a brief but courageous battle with cancer, Betty Lorain Nilsson passed away in her sleep on November 12, 2000 at the Concordia Hospital. Lorain will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 45 years, Walter; her son Walter Jr. and his fiancee Tanya; son Arne and his wife Sandy; grandsons, Matthew, Trevor and Jason, as well as by other family and close friends. Lorain was born July 21, 1929. She was a life-long Transcona resident and was thought of well by everyone who knew her. Lorain graduated as an R.N. from the Grace Hospital in 1952. She was employed at the Grace for 15 years as an assistant supervisor. She then became an industrial nurse at the C.N.R. in Transcona and finished her nursing career with the University of Manitoba Student Health. Lorains nursing career had spanned 40 years, when she retired in 1986. She had a quiet, caring way that endeared her to many patients and co-workers. Following retirement Lorain enjoyed her years watching her family grow and watching them in their achievements. But what her family enjoyed was seeing her special love and relationship with Walter. They had a special bond that is rarely seen. The family wish to convey their heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Concordia Hospital with a special thank you to Alice and also to Jane Parr for being such a good friend. We will all miss her greatly but she is now at rest. You will be in our memories forever, dear Mom and Grandma. Should friends desire to do so, memorial donations made in her memory, to Cancer Research or the Fire Fighters Burn Fund would be greatly appreciated. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, November 16 at 1:00 p.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. with Chaplain Mark Young officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
