ELEANOR CLARKE (MARTIN) (nee HAZELWOOD) On November 11, 2000 at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre, Eleanor Clarke passed away at the age of 101 years. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 37 years Thomas (Burt) Clarke. Eleanor is survived by her daughter Margaret Elizabeth (Bette) Smith-Egan of Winnipeg; a brother Jack Hazelwood of Brandon; two grandsons, Bob Smith (Maggie) of Steinbach and David Smith of Edmonton, Alberta; five great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Julia, Rob, Lance and Terra. She was predeceased by a brother William (Bill) Hazelwood, Vancouver; sisters, Elsie May Rourke, Brandon, Ida McKenzie, Winnipeg, Lillian Schmidke, Melita. Eleanor was born in Morris, Manitoba, June 9, 1899, daughter of Kate (Bull) and Alfred Hazelwood and received most of her schooling in England. She returned to Manitoba and lived in Rapid City, Brandon and Winnipeg. She was employed many years at Daytons on Portage Avenue in downtown Winnipeg. An active sportswoman, she was an honorary life member of the Manitoba Ladies Curling Association, serving on the executive council for 12 years and a term as president. She was a member of the Granite Curling club. Eleanor also served as President of the Manitoba Ladies Golf Association and was a member of the Niakwa Golf & Country Club. She was also a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary to A.C.T. A private family service will be held.
