PAUL JOSEPH McDEVITT With his family by his side, Paul passed away peacefully on November 14, 2000, at the Grace Hospital. Paul will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 50 years, Margaret; his daughters, Kim Ferguson, Kerry (Gary) Snell of Winnipeg and Kathy Bigelow of Calgary; son Michael McDevitt of Winnipeg; son-in-law Bob Bigelow; grandchildren, Johanna (Julio) Soto, Erin Ferguson, Chelsey and John Bigelow and Kaitlin Snell; cousins, Elsie Hignell, Johann Burns -Oman of Winnipeg and Diane Tyler of Sydney; sisters-in-law, Joyce Fraser-Millice of Calgary, Judy Fraser of California and Florence Fraser of Ottawa; brother-in-law Ken Fraser of Bahamas; and many nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his mother Isabel Hall in 1988; his step-father Graham Hall in 1974. Paul was born 75 years ago in the west end of Winnipeg. He attended Greenway, General Wolfe and Daniel MacIntyre schools. Paul joined the navy from 1943-1945 and worked at MTS until 1950 and then joined the firm of Patterson, Waugh, OFallon & Taylor as an insurance adjuster. He then later worked from Graham Hall and Associates and then for M.P.I.C. Paul and Margaret raised their four children in the Sturgeon Creek area of St. James. Paul was active in sports, coaching both hockey and Pop Warner football. He had a great love of many sports and was a devoted fan of the "Big Blue" and the Winnipeg Jets. Paul and Margaret moved to Calgary in 1979 where he was an adjuster and site manager for Odyssey Towers. He retired and they moved to Kelowna in 1992. They returned to Winnipeg in May of this year so they could be close to their family. Paul had a great sense of humour which helped him and his family through many trying times this past year. He was a very patient and kind person. He loved nature and spent many happy hours feeding and watching all types of birds. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. A. Schroeder, Dr. J. Mulder and the caring and loving staff of the Palliative Care (4West) of the Grace Hospital, for keeping Paul as comfortable as possible during his three month stay there. The family would also like to thank the many wonderful relatives and friends for their support, love and prayers. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pauls memory may be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care) 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg R3J 3M7, or Fort Whyte Nature Centre, 1961 McCreary Road, Winnipeg, R3P 2K9. Cremation has taken place and a Service of Remembrance to celebrate Pauls life will be held at Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway on Friday, November 17, at 2:30 p.m. "Courage does not always roar, Sometimes its a quiet voice, At the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow."
