Date of Passing: Nov 13, 2000
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROSE SHEWCHUK, R.N. Miss Rose Shewchuk passed away peacefully November 13, 2000, at the age of 89. Rose was born in Winnipeg to Leon and Tekla Shewchuk. She was followed by her young brother Sam, with whom she always had a close and mutually respecting relationship. After high school, Rose studied nursing at Misericordia Hospital, winning the Obstetrical Nursing Award upon graduation, in 1934. Her career evolved to include obstetrics plus private duty nursing. After her fathers death, she limited herself to private duty nursing, so she would better be able to care for her elderly mother. Rose was a long-time member of Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. She was bilingual in English and Ukrainian. She worked hard to establish and maintain a comfortable home for her Mom and herself. She was active with gardening, cooking, taking care of grand-nieces and travelling to visit old friends throughout the western United States and Canada. Rose was predeceased by her father Leon in 1949; her brother Sam in 1958; and her mother Tekla in 1980. She is survived by her niece, Dr. Joan Welch and her husband Barry Allum; her grand-nieces, Lauren and Diana Welch, and her sister-in-law Jessie Shewchuk. Joan wishes to thank Harry and Olga Sloker, and their daughters, Nancy and Maureen for their lifelong friendship with her Aunt. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 18, at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL in care of arrangements - 586-8044.
