MARGARET RITA HARRIS (REMPLE)

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET RITA HARRIS (nee REMPLE) Margaret Harris, born March 13, 1934, in Rosen Hoff, Sask., she was the eldest of seven children born to Peter and Anna Remple. Her parents moved to Grande Prairie, Alta., before her first birthday. She attended school there until she went to the Baptist Leadership Training School in Calgary, Alta., in 1951. After completing her studies she moved to Edmonton, Alta., working at Johnson & Walker Department store. She married Kenneth Harris on November 7, 1953, in Calgary. The couple moved to Yellowknife for two and one half years where she worked at Bromleys Hardware & Building Supplies. For the next 20 years she lived in Montreal, Que., Calgary, Yellowknife, N.W.T., Fort Nelson, B.C., Whitehorse, Yukon, Empress, Alta., Inuvik, N.W.T., Fort St. John, B.C., and Winnipeg, Man., while her husband worked for the Federal Government. She gave birth to seven children before moving to Winnipeg in 1974. From 1977 to 1984 she worked along side her husband in the Discipleship Ministry of Grant Memorial Baptist Church, developing the Womens World Ministries of the church. From 1985 to 1988 she served as Ladies Bible College Dorm Administrator and Counsellor at Briercrest Bible College in Caronport, Sask. Returning to Winnipeg in 1988, she worked as House Mother at the Salvation Armys Lindenview Residence for pregnant teens. In 1993 she was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy which forced her retirement in 1993. She is survived by her husband, seven children, 19 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, five sisters and one brother. A memorial celebration service will be held at Grant Memorial Baptist Church, 877 Wilkes Ave., Winnipeg, on November 25, at 2:00 p.m. Dr. Grant C. Richison will officiate. In lieu of flowers, family and friends are invited to contribute to the Grant Memorial Baptist Church Margaret Harris Memorial Fund available at the church at the celebration service.
