Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT JAMES OPENSHAW September 5, 1955 - November 15, 2000 It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Robert James Openshaw, on Wednesday, November 15, 2000, at Virden, Man. Robert was employed as a seasonal worker with the City of Winnipeg Parks and Recreation Department since 1986. His love for the great outdoors was enhanced by his time working at Assiniboine Park and Brookside and Elmwood Cemeteries, along with his fellow employees. Robert always had time to offer a helping hand to whoever needed it, and he made the task more enjoyable with his good-natured teasing and many jokes and silly antics. Robert was born and raised in the Brooklands area of Winnipeg. He spent most of his adult life in Winnipeg, and over the last couple of years he made his winter home in Pipestone, Man., along with his close companion of seven years, Carol Kennedy. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his spouse Carol Kennedy; four children from a previous marriage, Linda, Heather, Tammy and Jason Openshaw; sisters, Diane Openshaw, Linda (Rene) Desjarlais, Darlene (Darrell) Presly and Barbara (Jim) Wilson; brother-in-law Lawrence Desjarlais; Carols daughters, Sherri (Gerald) Bartel; sons, Michael and Jae, Tracey Kennedy and daughter Jessica Lachapelle. Robert was predeceased by his parents Jim (1972) and Irene (1983) sister Marion Desjarlais (March 2000) and brother David Bruce Openshaw (June 2000). Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 18, at 2:00 p.m. in Pipestone Community Hall, Pipestone, Man., with Rev. Erin Sterling officiating. To accommodate his friends and family in Winnipeg, a celebration of Roberts life will be held at Brooklands Recreation Centre, Elgin Avenue and Oddy Street, on Tuesday, November 21, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba in memory of Robert. "Thank you God for sending me an angel (Rob) when I needed one most." Love Carol G.R. Carscadden Funeral Chapel Ltd., Virden, Manitoba, in care of the arrangements.
