ALMA WALKER On Saturday, November 18, Alma Walker (nee Bernhardt) peacefully passed away at Seven Oaks General Hospital. She will be missed by her daughter, Lois (Gary Miller) son-in-law Brian Sutherland and beloved granddaughters, Lindi and Melissa Sutherland. She is also survived by her sisters, Violet, Emily, Eileen, and Florence (Del) brothers, Gordon (Bonnie) and Clifford (Bev), and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Jack, daughter Sherry and sister Doris. Alma was born on April 5, 1920 in Winnipeg and resided there until 1944 when she married Jack and moved to The Pas. Moving to the North in the 1940s was truly an adventure. Mom, however, was up to the challenge and the North became her home. Her heart always remained at Clearwater Lake where the family share forty years of fond memories of "Walkers Point". During their 53 years of marriage, Alma and Jack lived in The Pas, Thompson, Selkirk and Winnipeg. Wherever she lived, Alma enjoyed a wide circle of friends. She was a gracious hostess and her door always open to all. Almas family, both immediate and extended, was her life and her two granddaughters were surely the two highlights. She delighted in all of the family gatherings and visits. This strong sense of family is the legacy she leaves for us to share and uphold. After Jacks passing, Alma moved to Winnipeg to live at The Wellington. During the past two and a half years, she enjoyed new friendships and being geographically closer to family. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff and residents of The Wellington for their kindness. A debt of gratitude is also owed to Home Care, Drs Jill Kernahan and Elizabeth Watson, the staff of Kildonan Medical Centre, Seven Oaks General Hospital ER/OU, and last but certainly not least, Geriatrics, L3 Units 1-3. Your excellent care helped to ease some difficult transitions. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, McCalman at Grey. Interment to follow at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery, The Pas. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Winnipeg Humane Society, The Seven Oaks General Hospital Foundation, or Holy Cross Lutheran Church would be appreciated. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
