PETER EDWARD SHERMAN April 10, 1933 - November 18, 2000 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter at the Riverview Health Centre on November 18, 2000 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Peter was pre-deceased by his parents, Mary and Peter Sherman; brother Tommy; sisters, Jessie, Rose (Len), Clara (George), Elisabeth (Harry) brother-in-law Robert Gutray and father and mother-in-law Clifford and Gladys Walker. Peter leaves to mourn his loving wife of 42 years, Del; sons, Mark (Sandi), Jeff (Janine), Pete (Julie), daughter Cori (Ken) daughter-in-law Jocelyn; sisters, Molly Gutray and Jean (Jack) Dierckens; 11 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Peter worked for LaFarge Canada Inc. for over 37 years in many capacities, the lab, safety supervisor, production and as a member of the first aid team. He retired in 1992 after a long and enjoyable career. He will be sadly missed by many friends and co-workers. Born in 1933, Peter grew up in Oak Bluff on the family farm, where he loved the land and the people. In his younger days he enjoyed baseball, hunting and fishing. Throughout his life he loved the family cottage where he was an avid bird watcher and card player and enjoyed many happy hours with friends and family. After 30 happy years in their home in Fort Garry they returned to the farm for their retirement where Peter and Del loved the garden and watching the wildlife. Dad loved watching his grandsons play baseball in the yard on many warm summer days. He also loved to drive around the country roads looking at the crops and deer on his daily outings with Mom. Dad also greatly enjoyed the many visits from caring friends and family. You will all be happy to know, Dad kept his sense of humour and positive outlook to the end. Thank you to everyone who helped us through this trying time. Special thanks go out to Dr. Permack who was always there and who always cared "above and beyond", Dr. Scurrah who gave us extra time; the Victoria Hospital and staff for the special care after his stroke and HSC Rehab Hospital where he received therapy. Also a huge thank you to all the wonderful people at Home Care and Home Nutrition for helping make him comfortable. Riverview 3E "Our Angels in Training" and Dr. Marr you make the world a kinder, gentler place, thanks just does not express our gratitude. According to Peters wishes Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 23, at 1:00 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg R3C 9Z9 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301 - 352 Donald Street, Winnipeg R3B 2H8.
