GUSTAV (GUS) WAGNER On Sunday, November 19, 2000, Gus Wagner, beloved husband of Ida, passed away peacefully at the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers Disease. Besides his loving wife of 55 years, Ida, he is survived by his two daughters, Karen and Wayne Beatty, Marlene and Dieter Klein; grand-daughters, Kaitlin and Adrienne; two sisters, Irma (William) Scharein of Beausejour, MB, Martha Sonnenberg of Leduc, AB; two brothers, Albert (Grace) and August (Olga) of Winnipeg, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Christian and Wanda, as well as siblings, Otto, Louis, Erna, Bertha, Reinhold and Lydia. Gus was born on March 5, 1922 and came to Canada at the age of five. The family settled in Rolly View, AB and in 1939 the family moved to Prairie Grove, MB and then to Winnipeg. He worked at Canada Packers for 42 years, retiring in 1985. He was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church in Winnipeg at Trinity Lutheran and Peace Lutheran. Gus was a very hard working person who demanded perfection from himself and others. He loved the outdoors for hunting, fishing and gardening. His most valued time was being with his family and helping out. He was very proud of all of his "girls", "those guys" and their accomplishments. We are thankful that we had him as a husband, father and grandfather. Thank you to the caregivers at the Middlechurch Home where Gus has lived for the past 5 years. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 21 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Highway. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 22 at 1:30 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 350 Gilmore Avenue, with Pastor Brad Schollenberg officiating, with reception immediately following the service. Cremation and burial will take place at a later date in the family plot at St. Johns Cathedral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to Peace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or to the Alzeheimers Society of Manitoba. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
