Date of Passing: Nov 19, 2000
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHLEEN (FRISBY) GERSTMAR Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, on November 19, 2000, Kathleen Gerstmar passed away at St. Boniface General Hospital. Kathleen (Kim) was predeceased by her husband Kenneth in 1999; grandson Ryan; father-in-law Joseph Gerstmar Sr.; father William; mother Florence; sister Joyce and brother John. Kathleen will be forever missed by her children, Kirby (Joanne), Dawn Lamontagne (Dwayne Proulx), Darlene Casale (Robert), Brian (Annie Baker). Grandchildren, Kyle, Gavin, Joshua, Matthew, Kevin, Adrien, Justin, Steven, Sonia, Merrill and Liam; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joseph Jr. and Jane Gerstmar; nephew Craig (Brenda) and mother-in-law Mary Gerstmar. Kathleen was born in Rothwell Northamptonshire, England on November 20, 1932. She spent most of her growing up years in Kettering before immigrating to Canada in 1955. She met her husband Kenneth while working at the St. Charles Country Club in Winnipeg and they married in 1957. Kathleen worked in the Valley Room at Eatons from 1981 to 1996. She became a member of the Eatons Retiree Club where she kept up many friendships and enjoyed their many activities. Mum (or Mummzy as she was affectionately known by her family) was a person who had a genuine love of people and thoroughly enjoyed any occasion brought them together. She was outgoing, friendly and always up for a good laugh, often at her own expense! (Did we mention she was a good sport?). Before her illness, she enjoyed her life to the fullest with a particular fondness for excursions of any length or destination. She also cherished the companionship of her little dog Willie. Kathleens children would like to acknowledge the special loving relationship she had with Joe and Jane Gerstmar. We know it got Mum through some rather tough times. We would also like to thank all of her many friends (including Agnes and "The Golden Girls", Dodo and June) for their prayers, encouragement, and visits during her hospital stay. Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 23 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south from the Royal Canadian Mint) with interment at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the reception centre. Special thanks to the caring staff of 5E at St. Boniface Hospital; we appreciate the kindness and compassion shown to us all. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Winnipeg Humane Society. We love you Mum. "Wags". Well be waiting for our sign.
