Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySUSIE SCHMIDT 1914- 2000 It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Susie Schmidt, our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, on November 20, 2000 at Golden West Centennial Lodge at the age of 86 years. She was predeceased by her parents Johann and Anna Froese; her beloved husband Peter; two brothers, Peter and John; two sisters, Mary and Anna and son-in-law Henry Plenert. She leaves to mourn daughter Irene and husband Peter Priess and grandchildren Adelle and Janice; daughter Hilda Plenert and grandchildren Theresa and husband Boyd Swain, Dana-Leigh and her husband Larry Medhurst, and great grandchildren Josie, Jared and Jenna, and grandchild Shaun, daughter Annita and husband Vern Giesbrecht and grandchildren Shannon, Greg and Tim. She is also survived by five sisters, Margaret (Isbrandt) Friesen, Helen (Jake) Warkentin, Erna Dyck, Sadie Petkau and Kathleen (David) Klassen, and one brother Abe (Anita) Froese. Susie was born on May 7, 1914 and grew up in the village of Schoeneberg in Ukraine. When her family immigrated to Canada in 1929, she was temporarily separated from them and spent a year in Germany. She was finally reunited with her parents and siblings in 1932. In 1934 she was baptized by confession of her faith by her uncle Johann Bueckert in Rosetown, Man. In 1939 she married Peter Schmidt and they farmed at Oak Bluff until 1975 at which time they moved into Winnipeg. Retirement from farming allowed them to relax, enjoy the company of family and friends and travel to renew connections with siblings. In 1989 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Following the death of her husband Peter in 1995, she moved to Autumn House where she enjoyed the fellowship of many new and old friends. Due to declining health she had to give up much of her independence and eventually found a home at Golden West Centennial Lodge. Special thanks to Majors Don and Daphe Maye and all of the fifth floor staff at Golden West. All who knew and cared for her there were won by her quick smile and gentle loving nature. A celebration of her life will be held at First Mennonite Church, Notre Dame and Alverstone, at 11:30 am on Friday, November 24, with interment in Springstein Cemetery. Viewing, will be on Thursday, November 23 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., with devotional at 8:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Highway. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee, or to the Salvation Army. And He will raise you up on eagles wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you shine like the sun And hold you in the palm of His hand. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
