HERBERT J. DOERING Herbert J. Doering was born on March 29, 1907 in Lichtentahl, West Germany, to his parents Julius and Juliana Doering. Dad died surrounded by loved ones Sunday, November 19, 2000, at the age of 93. It was an honour to be with him at the end of his earthly journey. His belief in God carried him through many difficult times, a strength he continually modelled for us. Dad immigrated to Canada in April, 1926 and joined his Uncle Fred in the Shevlin District. It was here that Dad met his wife, Mary Winick. They were married on May 6, 1932. Their union was blessed with six children. Dad and Mom farmed in the Shevlin area until 1946. Our family then moved to Winnipeg in 1947. In the years that followed, Dad worked as a plasterer and painter. He spent his last 20 working years with Silverwoods Dairy Limited, where he worked until his retirement in 1974. Dad was a hard working, loving man, whose main interest lay in the happiness of his family. He loved the outdoors and gardening. He was also a big sports fan, but his favourite past time was watching the Blue Jays. Dad gave us a lasting appreciation of music and singing. His sense of gentleness and patience was a marvellous example of his strength of character. Left to treasure the years that Dad unselfishly shared with others are: Elfrieda and Ernie Chapel of Calgary; Walter and Steffie Doering; Herb and Pat Doering; Marilyn Doering; Joanne and Bruce Hallmuth; Liz and Gerry Chammartin, all of Winnipeg. Grandpa will also lovingly be remembered by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Craig and Kathy Doering (Brendon and Brittany) Grant and Bonnie Doering (Kelsie and Kyle) Wade and Wanda Doering (Julie) Jason and Crystal Doering; Pamela Doering; Jaclynn and Kristyne Hallmuth; Brandi, Raena and Bradley Chammartin. He is survived by one brother, Walter (Marie) Doering of Roblin, Man. Dad was predeceased in 1984 by Mary, his beloved wife of 52 years; his parents Julius and Juliana Doering; two brothers, Erhardt and Arthur Doering and one sister, Ida Zimmer. Special thanks to Pastor Jan for his comforting presence to all of us in Dads last hours. We would also like to thank the staff of Luther Home for the respect and dignity Dad received. We will always cherish Dad for.....a sympathetic ear that gave gentle reassurance and the quiet strength of warm, sensitive eyes. Dad was an honourable man who has left us a treasure of wonderful memories. Thank you for a Dad so sweet. Grant him rest and blessed peace. "Be not afraid. I go before you always. Come unto me and I will give you rest." Viewing will take place at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., entrance on Aubrey Street on Wednesday, November 22 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2528 King Edward St., on Thursday, November 23. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, contributions may be made to the Immanuel Memorial Fund or the Immanuel Building Fund. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
