Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM DAVID McKIBBIN Age 90 years. Following a brief illness, on November 21, 2000 at the Victoria General Hospital. Dad was predeceased by his wife Dorothy (Webster) in 1993; sister Helen and brothers, Robert and Edward and their wives; brothers-in-law, Rupert Chataway and Marshall Bier. He is survived by sons, Bill (Billy), John and David (Kathy), five grandchildren; four and a half great-grandchildren; sisters, Josephine (Chataway) of Vancouver B.C.and Eileen (Bier) of Grand Rapids, Michigan and numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was born in Coleman, Alberta, June 21, 1910 moving to Winnipeg at an early age. The family settled in Crescentwood where he attended Earl Grey and Kelvin Schools before entering the University of Manitoba Arts Faculty graduating in 1930. His business career began at North Star oil, progressed to Dominion Life, and culminated with a long career at Great West Life beginning in 1948. As a young man Dad was very involved with YMCA, leading programs both in Winnipeg and Camp Stephens, and the Winnipeg Canoe Club where he met and courted Mom. They were married in 1934 and made their home in Fort Garry at a time when it was very rural. Dad was always active in the community including Fort Garry United Church, where he was a member for over 60 years, The Fort Garry Community Club, Fort Garry Horticultural Society, Fort Garry Conservative Association, and the Boy Scouts of Canada. He had a passion for gardening and bridge, playing the latter with the Seniors at the Fort Rouge Curling Club until last Spring. Bill got great enjoyment from the cottage at Victoria Beach (although Mom said he spent too much time at the parking lot "visiting"). Dad had friends from all walks of life. He loved to talk to everyone, especially the bus drivers as they were a "captive audience". Dad was able to live independently, which was so very important to him, until August of this year. The family would like to thank all those wonderful staff at the Victoria General Hospital 4th floor and at the Misericordia Health Center 5th floor, for their kind and thoughtful care. A memorial service will take place at Fort Garry United Church, Point Road at Lyon Street, on Saturday, November 25, 2000 at 3:30 in the afternoon, with a reception to follow immediately. Donations may be made to the Fort Garry United Church Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice.
