JACK BARKER, D.F.C. With great sadness we grieve the loss of our husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend on November 23 at the Charleswood Care Centre. While he left us quickly, his wife May, daughters Judy and Darlene and families Jeff, Stefan, Kevin and Scott Lodeweyckx of Belgium and Wally, Michael and Kalyn Pyl of Winnipeg will miss and think of him always. Dad was born and raised in Glenboro, MB. He was predeceased by his brother, Don and leaves behind his younger sisters Isabel Betz of Winnipeg, Shirl Nielson of California and brother Gerry Barker of Banff and their families. Throughout his life Dad was a very humble and private man who never spoke of his many accomplishments. During the Second World War, as a Flight Lieutenant he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for gallantry and duty. After the war he embarked on a 38 year career with Canada Post that took him as Postmaster to Swan River, Brandon and finally Neepawa where he supervised 43 offices. While our father was actively involved in his Church, leading youth groups, working with charity organizations and serving on non-profit Boards, his greatest joy was his family - his ceaseless bragging about his grandchildren and unending devotion to the light of his life, his wife May. His promise to love and cherish her forever as she struggled with Alzheimers, and he with cancer, was an inspirational love story to all who watched him over the last six years faithfully visit her every day at the Charleswood Care Centre. During these years he became a friend, confidante and advocate to both the staff and residents. The family would like to thanks Dads friends and neighbours at Beauchemin Park, the staff at Grace Hospital and his caregiving friends at Charleswood Care Centre for their compassion and for going to extraordinary lengths to keep him comfortable and make our loss easier to bear. Dad would not want sorrow or sympathy expressed with flowers. Instead we ask that those who wish to remember his memory do so by making a donation to the Resident Piano Fund, in care of the Charleswood Care Centre, 5501 Roblin Boulevard, Winnipeg, R3R 0G8. A memorial service and reception to celebrate Dads life will take place on Monday, November 27 at 11:00 a.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley Street. LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1501 Waverley Street 949-4860
