JACOB BERGER Jacob Berger passed away peacefully, following a lengthy illness, on Saturday, November 25, 2000, at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg. Jake was born in the Sonnenfeld Colony of Southern Saskatchewan on June 19, 1924, to Philip and Rebecca Berger. After receiving his B.A. degree from the University of Saskatchewan, he taught school for two years and then worked at the Provincial Health Laboratory in Regina for 38 years. Jake was recognized with several honours and awards during his career, and was valued by his coworkers for his kind and gentle manner, for his intelligence and humour, and for his strong work ethic. In 1961, Jake married Sophie Heifetz of Edmonton and they established a home in Regina. In 1994, they moved to Winnipeg to be nearer family. Jake will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family, for his kindness and gentle way. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 39 years Sophie; his children, Philip, Naomi (Greg) and Arthur; grandchildren, Joshua and Rachel; his brothers Kiva and Usher (Sylvia) sisters, Eva, Lea and Dora; sister-in-law Eva and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jakes memory will also remain dear to his many friends and former coworkers. Special thanks to Dr. Ruth Simkin and to the staff at Victoria General Hospital and Riverview Health Centre who treated Jake and his family with such compassion. Thanks also to family and friends for their support. Funeral services took place on Sunday, November 26 at 3:00 p.m. at Chesed Shel Emes Chapel in Winnipeg followed by burial at Rosh Pina Memorial Park. If individuals so wish, donations may be made in Jakes memory to the charity of ones choice.
