ERNEST DAUN Ernie passed away on Saturday, November 25 at Riverview Health Center. He was born Jan 29, 1915 in Winnipeg and lived most of his life in the West End. He will be joining his wife Janet (Porter) who passed away in 1976, his brother Calder (Kelley), and his sisters Margaret (Little), Elsie (Green) and Ruby (McMaster). He leaves to remember his life, his son James, daughter Sharon, daughter-in-law Lynda and grandchildren Kyle, Meredith and Alexis. With his brother Kelley he was co-owner of Daun Brothers Carton Exchange from 1938 to 1971. He served in the R.C.A.F. during WWII. He was a life-member of St. Johns Lodge #4 AF & AM and was an active member of the Winnipeg Optimist Club, especially in the little league program, serving as President and was a life member of Optimists International. In high school, Ernie was active in track and field with the Winnipeg North End Amateur Athletic Club. He played senior fastball at Wesley and Osbourne Stadiums pitching for Elites and Stan Evans. He enjoyed golf and was a member of Southwood Golf and County Club. Ernie was active all his life in curling and with brother Kelley participated successfully in many bonspiels. He was a member of Thistle Curling Club from 1936 to present. He served as president of Thistle, was Finance chair for 14 years and was made a life member in 1969. He also served on the Thistle Curling Club board of directors and was president for 2 years. He worked on a number of committees for the Manitoba Curling Association including Finance, 1971 Briar, 1978 Silver Broom, and for many playdowns for senior competitions. In his later years he was an member of Granite Senators and the Sportsmens League. He was made a life member of the Manitoba Curling Association in 1970. He moved into Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts in December 1998 and quickly became involved in many of the activities including sing songs, pageants and was particularly proud of his teams winning the mini-Olympics. Thanks especially to Dr. Brandes and the staff at the Manitoba Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation, Dr. Young, Katherine Napier (VON), home care staff at 2015 Portage, Dr. Garcia and the staff at Riverview Health Center for their care and concern over the past year. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Riverview Health Center Palliative Care Unit. Following cremation a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 29 at 1:00 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
