HELEN EVELYN FALLOON (JENNINGS) Helen passed away on Friday, November 24, 2000 at St. Boniface Hospital after a short battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her son Garnet in 1967; husband Bob in 1984 and daughter Marjorie Thomson in 1988. Helen is survived by her daughter Marlene Blackman, her husband Doug and daughters, Jaclynn and Jennifer of Calgary, Alta.; her son Jim, his wife Lynda and children, Daniel and Maureen; her son George, his wife Heather and children, Devon and Savannah and her son-in-law Ian Thomson, his wife Cherylynn and children, Mary and Raymond. Helen was born on January 19, 1924 in Moose Jaw, Sask. She spent her childhood on the farm near Central Butte, Sask. After high school, she attended Normal School and had an enjoyable and successful teaching career in various Saskatchewan towns, such as Log Valley, Maidstone, Antelope Creek, Kyle and Lajord. In 1950, she moved to Taber, Alta., where she met Robert (Bob) Falloon and they were married in December 1953. After living in Taber, Alta., and Outlook, Sask., where Bob was employed by the PFRA on the Gardiner Dam Project, Helen and her family finally settled in Winnipeg in 1968. Helen taught school for a while and then worked as a nurses aide at the Rehab Hospital, Kiwanis Centre for the Deaf and Medox until her retirement. Helens life was highlighted by her dedication and devotion to her family and to God. She liked nothing better than to bring all her children and their families together for big dinners at her home or at Smittys Restaurant and to be surrounded by the ones closest to her. She made regular trips to Saskatchewan to visit her brothers and sisters and loved writing letters and receiving mail from near and distant relatives and the many friends she had made over the years. The centre of Helens life was St. Alphonsus Parish to which she devoted many years of care and service. She was a long time member of the Catholic Womens League and served as their President at one time. She also worked every Friday at the St. Alphonsus Thrift and Gift Shop, was a member of the R.C.I.A. team and brought communion to patients at Concordia Hospital. We will always remember with love her generosity, kindness, sense of humour and delicious baking powder biscuits.
