Date of Passing: Sep 25, 2000
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE CHAPMAN PARKIN It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Father and Grandfather, George Chapman Parkin on November 25, 2000. Dad fought a courageous battle over the last few weeks, facing his attacker without fear. Dad was born in Winnipeg on May 14, 1925 to Charles and Ada Parkin. He grew up in Charleswood attending Chapman School, Charleswood High and the University of Manitoba. He worked at Eatons in the research bureau. Dad served with the Royal Canadian Air Force as an air gunner. He graduated from Law School in 1949 and went to work for the City of Winnipeg as a Law Clerk. He was called to the Bar in 1950; appointed Justice of the Peace in 1951; Notary Public in 1957; Magistrate, Clerk of Court and Secretary to the Board of Police Commissioners in 1962. In 1974, Dad transferred to the Attorney Generals Department of the Province of Manitoba as Chief Clerk of Court for the City of Winnipeg. Dad loved his working days. It was more than a job to him... it was fun! Dad and Mom, Alice McClusky, were married June 15, 1951. They enjoyed a very special marriage, providing a happy, loving home for Janet Rae, born in 1956 and Karen Elizabeth in 1958. Mom took sick in 1966 and Dad lovingly cared for her for many years during her illness. Mom passed away January 19, 1978. Dad retired from the Province of Manitoba in 1990, continuing to work part time as a circuit court Judge. Upon his retirement, Dad purchased his home in Sperling. It was his dream come true to be able to raise his birds and work on his land. He quickly fit into small town living and thought very highly of his many friends in the Sperling area. Dad enjoyed life. He loved to "wheel and deal". He had a great time "kicking tires", going to auctions and gun shows, talking guns, airplanes, cars and politics, travelling, going for coffee in the mornings, "playing" with his computer, working on his tractors and learning anything new. Dad is survived by his loving daughters and their families, Janet Parkin of Sperling and her children, Ben and Bethany and Karen and Greg McCreary of Domain and their children, Stephen and Jessica. He leaves to mourn his special friend and companion Margaret Rose of Sperling. He will be missed by his sisters, Mary and Allan Neil of Salt Spring Island and Iris and Clair Maurstad of Winnipeg. He also leaves many other family members and friends and his constant companion, Lady. Dad was well respected in his profession. He was a man with great integrity, compassion, fair judgement and common sense. He always showed respect to others and could be counted on to go out of his way to help one in need. He mended many broken wings over the years. He was the best Dad, Grampa and friend. He is loved and will never be forgotten. Service will be held on Wednesday, November 29 at 1:30 p.m. in St. Marys Anglican Church, 3830 Roblin Blvd. Interment at a later date. Dads wish was that we gather after a short service and reception to celebrate, not mourn. To honour this wish, you are invited to join the family at Karens home following the reception. If you have a special memory or story of Dad, please share it with us in writing to form a lasting tribute to him. Flowers gratefully declined. If so desired, donations may be made to the Carman Memorial Hospital, Carman, Manitoba or Fort Whyte Centre. Many thanks to Dr. F. Dreyer and the staff of Carman Memorial Hospital. Your excellent care of our Father was greatly appreciated. Special thanks also to Bob and Florence McEwen for all your help and care; the Rose family, and everyone who visited, sent cards, flowers and wishes over the past month. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
