DANIEL THOMAS OLIVER Peacefully at Dr. Evelyn Memorial Hospital, Stonewall, Daniel Thomas Oliver passed away November 27, 2000 after a lengthy battle with cancer, formerly of Woodlands, Winnipeg and Lake Francis. Born January 30, 1930 in Winnipeg the second youngest of seven children of Robert and Kate Oliver of Lake Francis. He lived most of his life in Lake Francis, going to school, hunting and trapping in the early years, only leaving to go to work when he grew older, he kept an apartment in the city so he was close to work when they called. He returned home to the farm owned by Dave and Cecile and family on his days off. He took his holidays in hunting season, from daylight to dark he spent his days at his favourite pastime. Many trips were made to the "hills" in Riding Mountain and the Robinsons to hunt there too. Hunting enabled Uncle Dan to meet and make many new friends. He guided for many years taking hunters from the U.S.A., all over the province and forming a lot of long lasting friendships. Uncle Dan was a hard worker all his life. He worked in bush camps and mines, two years for Manitoba Hydro and 35 years for C.N.R. retiring in 1989. He took up gardening, farming and visiting to fill in his time until hunting season. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Kate; one brother Lloyd; one step brother Alder Stevens; three brothers-in-law, Donald McMillan, William Oliver and Frank Kaartinen. Surviving to mourn his loss are his three sisters, Phyllis Oliver, Alice Kaartinen and Evelyn Erickson (Walter) two step sisters, Grace McMillan and Maja Oliver; two brothers, Robert (Ida) and David (Cecile) and two sisters-in-law, Christina Oliver and Valborg Stevens and numerous nieces and nephews plus numerous great nieces and great nephews especially Henry and "Hunting Hawk." Also his adopted family the Robinsons. A private gathering for family and friends will take place December 2 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Woodlands Legion Hall, Woodlands, MB.
