HELEN HENDZEL It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Hendzel, quietly on Saturday, November 25, at the age of 89. She will be sadly missed by her children, Marilyn Hendzel, Leonard (Sharon) Hendzel and Murray (Dianne) Hendzel; grandchildren Matthew Hendzel, Maureen (Robert) Austin and Jennifer Hendzel and her Great-grandson Andrew Austin. She is also remembered by numerous nieces and nephews and friends. She now joins her husband Gus, who predeceased her in 1979 and her sisters Mary May, Rose Dolny and Jessie Holisko. Helen was born in Brandon and lived there for most of her years. The centre of her life was her family and their needs and well-being always came first. She especially loved cooking and baking for her family and they have wonderful memories of homemade cinnamon buns, doughnuts and other treats that she often made for them. When she wasnt busy with her family, she enjoyed spending time in the garden. She and Gus were active members of the Brandon Horticultural Society for many years. They won numerous awards for their yard and flower gardens on Rosser Avenue, which Helen continued to maintain long after her husbands death. Helen was also a member of St. Hedwigs Church for her entire life and sung in the choir in her early years. In 1991 her family persuaded her to leave Brandon and move to Winnipeg where she lived with her daughter until June of this year when her health started to fail. She will be remembered as a hard working, unassuming person, who had a deep love for her family, nature and God. The family would especially like to thank the staff at Golden Links Lodge for the care, compassion and understanding provided to Helen in her final days. Prayers will be held at Rosewood Memorial Chapel in Brandon on Tuesday, November 28 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Hedwigs Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 29 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Anthony Korewa. Interment will follow in Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, or the charity of your choice. "You will be always there with us, mother the most precious flower in our garden." Arrangements are in care of Rosewood Memorial Chapel, Brandon, 727-8333.
