ALIDA OVERWATER Alida Overwater passed away peacefully after a brief illness on November 26, 2000. She was born June 20, 1913 in Winnipeg to Jaapje and Jacobus Overwater. She was predeceased by her mother and father, sister Bernadine and brother Ernest. She is survived by three brothers; Jacob (Florence), John (Alice) and Neil (Irene), and five sisters; Anne Janssens, Betty Carrette, Beatrice Van Walleghem, Marie Schreyer and Jacqueline (Keith) Buchanan as well as numerous nieces and nephews. After many years as a volunteer with St. Johns Ambulance, she enlisted as an ambulance driver overseas in England during the Second World War. After returning home she entered to School of Nursing in the Misericordia Hospital. She graduated as a R.N. where she was night supervisor for many years. Later she went to the University of Manitoba and obtained her B.N. She worked many years for the City of Winnipeg as a Public Health Nurse. She was always ready to help her family and friends and spent many years caring for her elderly parents. We are all sorry to lose Ida and will keep many fond memories of her in our hearts. Special thanks to the nurses and staff of Grace Hospital for their dedicated care of Alida. In lieu of flowers a donation in memory of Alida to the Jesuit Missions, or a charity of your choice would be gratefully appreciated. Mass of the Resurrection will be held Thursday, November 30 at St. John Brebeuf Roman Catholic Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Place at 11:00 a.m., with prayers commencing at 10:45 a.m. Interment to follow in Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue.
