Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES DOUGLAS GILLIES In loving memory of Jim Gillies, who passed away suddenly on November 27, 2000, at the St. Boniface Hospital. He was born in Winnipeg in 1919. Jim led life to the fullest in every sense, with energy and vitality, learning and growing every day. He worked for several years in sales management for Swift Canadian Company and then with his brothers Bud and Gar, owned and operated CAMS Radio and TV in three Winnipeg retail locations. He then managed the Piano and Organ Department of Eatons downtown store, later ending his working career with J.J.H. McLean Piano Stores of Winnipeg. He was proud to have served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Pilot Officer during the Second World War. Jim was a long time member of Fidelity Masonic Lodge number 146 A.F.&A.M. and the Shriners Khartum Temple, giving of his time and talents freely and enthusiastically. Jim had a life long love affair with the piano and was a well known talented popular musician. He played for many clubs, hotels, social affairs, etc., sometimes as a solo performer or as the leader of his own orchestra. Throughout his life he touched countless thousands with his musical gift and creativity on the keyboard. He also helped many young artists with their musical development. He is survived by many loved ones including his loving wife Marian; his daughters, Gail (Frank) Dobrofsky and Susan (Carl) Aboud and son Greg (Carol) Gillies; his grandchildren, Kara and Scott; brother Gar (Rita) his sister-in-law Trudy and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Bud and his sister Ellen. A vigorous, highly intelligent, gregarious contributing member of his community. A devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, a loyal and trusted friend, he will be sorely missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His music will remain in our hearts forever. Good night, Jim, and God bless. If friends so desire, expressions of sympathy may be in the form of flowers or donations to the charity of your choice. The service celebrating Jims life will be held at the Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway, Winnipeg, on Saturday, December 2 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow upstairs at Thomson.
