DONALD ALEXANDER MAITLAND July 16, 1932 - November 29, 2000 Peacefully, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, Don passed away at St. Josephs Hospital on the morning of Wednesday, November 29. Don was born and raised in the Winnipeg area and it was here he met his beloved wife Joan and saw the birth of his two sons. In 1976, an opportunity with the Canadian National Railway moved the family to Thunder Bay, Ont. Don had an insatiable appetite for the printed word, a wry wit, great sense of humour and always enjoyed a heated debate on any subject. Dad devoted most of his time to family, always having time for a game of catch, a family camping trip or to bail us out of jail (only once)! After retirement he also enjoyed all 120 strokes of an afternoons golfing as did his golfing buddies. Don was predeceased by his wife Joan; his parents, Robert and Cecile and his brother Doug. Don is survived by his sons, Craig and wife Marianne, Todd and wife Bibi, his sister Craigie and grandchildren, Brett, Kyla, Kent, Kasey and Sean. As per Dons request there shall be no formal service. Friends are invited to join the family for a toast in his honour at his Pebbly Beach home on Saturday, December 2 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
