MATTHEW HANSSEN On Wednesday, November 29, 2000, Matthew Hanssen (Opa) beloved husband of Lisa, passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks Hospital surrounded by his family at the age of 87 years. Born in the Netherlands, he immigrated to Canada with his family, settling in St. Andrews. Left to cherish his loving memory are sons, Fritz (Bernie) Charleswood, Gerry (Betty) Virginia Beach, USA, Andrew (Marilyn) Toronto, ON, Henry (Margaret) Wawanesa, John (Angela) Maple Creek, SK, Roy Lac du Bonnet; daughters, Gertrude (Ken Morse) Kentville, NS, Dorothea (Vernon Bater), Nellie (Peter Smeets) St. Andrews, Jenny (Norman LeBlanc) MacKenzie, BC, as well as 27 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren. Matthew was predeceased by daughter Cathy. Also surviving is one sister in the Netherlands. In celebration of his life there will be prayers in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., on Friday, December 1 at 8:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 2 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Theresas Church, 3597 Main St. Interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 109-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or to a charity of your choice. Sorry for your loss Gerald. Too much time has gone past Gerald (and Betty) to relate my sorrow at not having met, and related to your side of your family. I remember Lionelle speaking fondly, many times, of her affection for your parents and her memories of them both. Wish things could have turned out differently, for all of us.
