The family wish to thank the caregivers/staff and fellow residents at the Life Care Centre for their frequent and loving care which enabled Ruth to pass on happy and at peace at home which was her dying wish. Previous to Ruth residing at the Life Care Centre, she resided in her long time home in Belair. The family would like to thank all the home care workers in the area as well as home care and hospital staff in the Pine Falls area for their help and kindness. Ruth also received much help and kindness from neighbours and friends in the area which was greatly appreciated by us all. No flowers by request. If one so desires please make a donation to a charity of ones choice. Ruth graduated as a nurse from the Winnipeg General and began her career there. Later she got her Public Health Diploma from the University of Toronto enabling her to pursue this aspect of nursing. Ruth worked as a nurse at Alonsa, the Hudson Bay Line (where working from a mobile nursing car she started nursing services at Wabowden, Thicket Portage, Pikwitonei, Ilford and Gillam). She then went to Ruperts House on James Bay, Quebec. Here she also looked after the small village of Nemaska, 100 miles away up the Rupert River. From Ruperts House, Ruth retired to Manitoba to be nurse on the Fairford Reserve, north of Ashern. She then went to Kincolith, a small Northern Salmon fishing village at the mouth of the Nass River, B.C. It was 100 miles up the coast from Prince Rupert, B.C. and was only accessible by boat or plane. Ruth then returned to Manitoba and was nurse on the Opasquiak Reserve at The Pas. Here, she also went weekly to Cormorant Lake as a Public Health Nurse. >From here she went to Hay River in the North West Territories for a two year period. To finish her work, Ruth ended her career on the Sagkeeng Reserve near Pine Falls, but at 67 Ruth realized the time had come to retire. Ruth ended her nursing career where she had begun. She finished as a part-time volunteer nurse at the Health Sciences Centre. This was the Winnipeg General long ago. "She did what she could and she served us well" THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
