EDWARD (TED) MCGREGOR Edward (Ted) McGregor, B.A., passed away suddenly at the St. Boniface General Hospital in Winnipeg on Monday, November 27, 2000. At the time of his passing, he was the Principal at the Sam Cooke Mahmuwee Education Centre in Split Lake, Man., where he lived with his companion, Louise Bone and her daughter. The son of the late Malcolm and Jean (Patten) McGregor, he was born in Simcoe, Ont. in 1944. Raised and educated in Toronto, and a graduate of the University of Toronto (Victoria College), he began his teaching career in the Belleville, Ont. area (Deseronto) in 1971. In 1976, he moved to Sandy Bay, Man. and using his passion for helping, teaching and working with people, he served First Nation communities in Manitoba and Northern Ontario for 24 years. He taught at the Shamattawa First Nation, and was the Principal at the Fairford First Nation and in Gull Bay, Ont. From 1981 to 1988, he served as the Assistant Director of Education with the Dakota-Ojibway Tribal Council. He also worked as an Education and Community Consultant for the Dakota Plains First Nation and a number of other First Nation communities in Northern Ontario. Edward (Ted) McGregor will be sadly missed by his brothers, Gordon (Barrie, Ont.) and Bruce (Toronto, Ont.), and their families; his close friends, Gerald Kub (Kelowna, B.C.) and Tom Downie (Brandon) Liz Denton (Brandon) and her family, and the many students, parents, colleagues, friends and members of his extended family whose lives he touched with his sensitive and giving spirit. A memorial service will be held at the Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North in Brandon, Man. on Thursday, December 7 commencing at 10:30 a.m. Donations to a charity of your choice, in lieu of flowers, would be appreciated.
