Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVERNA CATHERIN FREUND (nee SLOBODA) 1919 - 2000 MICHAEL STEPHEN FREDERIC FREUND 1959 - 2000 Two bright lights of our lives have gone out. The Lord has come to take them to a better place. Michael passed away December 3, 2000, and came for Mom a few hours later. Mom and Michael are survived by their loving family, Christopher and Geraldine Freund; Charlotte and Helmut Kitzmann and their children, David and Jennifer, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Our dear father, Roy, left us March 16, 1995. Born on April 15, 1959, Michael was the joy of our lives. He grew up in Lac du Bonnet, MB and came to Winnipeg when he was 15 to attend Prince Charles and Kirkfield Park Schools. He worked for Coldstream Products after graduating. We were very proud of Michael. Michael had a great sense of humour. He was very proud of his nephew David and niece Jennifer. Michael enjoyed playing golf on the computer, playing games, boating with Chris and Gerry and soccer as well as camaraderie with Helmut and the soccer teams. Mom was a very calm, serene, knowledgeable lady. She was born in Winnipeg on March 2, 1919. She met our Dad where she worked and followed him to Victoria in 1943 to be wed. After the war, Mom and Dad moved to Lac du Bonnet where they resided until Michael came to school in Winnipeg. Our Mother was always there for us. She taught us compassion, kindness and love. Mom loved her gardens in Lac du Bonnet and in Winnipeg. In March of 1996 Mom was diagnosed with cancer and fought long and courageously, but was very much a lady throughout. We would like to express our thanks to the many people involved in Moms care at home. Special thanks to Shirley Toews, V.O.N. and our very special thanks to our angels from Home Care and Hospice volunteers, who had nothing but compassion and love for Mom. These women were a gift given to us but for a short time. They are too numerous to mention, but are all greatly appreciated. In memory of Mom, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society of Manitoba, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7. In memory of Michael, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8. A funeral service for Verna and Michael will be held Friday, December 8 at 10:00 a.m. from Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with Rev. Heimo Bachmeyer presiding. Verna and Michael will be laid to rest in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens with a gathering of family and friends to follow.
