CHARLES VANDERHORST Peacefully, on December 7, 2000 at the Middlechurch Nursing Home, we regret to announce the passing of our father Charles Sylvester Vanderhorst. Born on February 26, 1926 as one of eight children he is survived by son Richard, his wife Susan, and their children, Jamie and Nichole; daughter Joanne, her husband Jordan and children, Zane and Jett; daughter Laurel and her son Shayle; sisters, Elizabeth, Nell and Margaret; brother Jack and his wife Shirley; brother John and his wife Anne, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Gertrude; brother Harry and sister Vera of California. A passionate Market Gardener he lived his life along the banks of the Red River in North Kildonan and East St. Paul. He enjoyed nature, loved the land, and fostered a philosophical approach to his work and family life. In his younger years Charles enjoyed spending leisure time swimming and canoeing with his brothers at the Kildonan Canoe Club. "Charley" will be fondly remembered by many as a serious, sensitive man, with a gentle sense of humour who endeavoured, in spite of hardships, to see the best in all those around him. We would like to express our gratitude to all the nursing staff at the Middlechurch Home for their excellent care of our father during his stay there. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will occur at Klassen Funeral Chapel at 1897 Henderson Highway on Monday, December 11 at 2:00 p.m. If so desired, friends and family may make donations in lieu of flowers to the charity of their choice. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
