Mickey has always led an active life. He was born and raised on the family farm in Altamont, Manitoba where he developed his love and expertise in gardening. Mickey was also an avid reader with a thirst for knowledge in history and current affairs. With a sharp mind he was able to relate something that occurred many years previous as though it were yesterday. With pride, Mickey served in The Second World War as a member of the First Canadian Survey Regiment. Upon returning to Canada Mickey attended university. Later he apprenticed as a land surveyor and eventually he became a business partner in the firm Wilson and Neal. After Mickey retired from his business he worked for the Department of Highways from 1977 to 1983. In 1981 he began a new chapter of his life with his marriage on March 28 to Charmaine, where they settled in Winnipeg Beach and later moved to Gimli in 1982 and resided until present. After his retirement Mickey was actively involved in the community volunteering for Senior Resource Council, Meals on Wheels and Community Relations for the RCMP. But closest to his heart was his unending and dedicated role he played as a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Winnipeg Beach. He will be sadly missed by all the members of Branch 61. Mickey leaves to mourn his wife Charmaine. He is also survived by his sons Wayne (Barb) grandchildren Sean, Jennifer and Sara and great grandchild Luke of Fairmont, B.C.; Lyle (Diane), grandchildren Stephen and Marni of Invermere, B.C.; stepchildren Tim (Lori) grandchildren Sara, Amanda, Zach and Luke of Antigonish, NS.; Crystal (Paul), grandchildren Ashley and Chelsey of Winnipeg, Darryl (Kate), grandchildren Liam and Erin of Winnipeg.
