Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJESSIE ELIZABETH AIKMAN The death of Jessie Elizabeth Aikman (nee Mainland) occurred December 4, 2000 in Saskatoon. Born in Fort Rouge, Winnipeg in 1907 she was predeceased by her husband Robert Pringle Aikman in 1953. Also predeceased by her brothers, Thomas, Donald, William, Gilbert, James; her sister Mary Armstrong and nephew Ronald Armstrong. A devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother she is survived by her loving family; daughters, Dian Freeman and husband Clinton of Vancouver and Helen Courtney and husband John of Saskatoon; four grandchildren, Joanne Green (Murray) Toronto, John Courtney (Lesley) Saskatoon, Andrea Freeman (Mauro Rizzo) Vancouver, Elizabeth Freeman (Bradley Atchison) Vancouver and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four loving nieces, one loving nephew and their families. In 1936 Jessie moved to Charleswood where she was an active member of both the Charleswood United Church and the Charleswood Historical Society. She was employed by the Canadian General Electric from 1953-l970. Jessie was a conservationist and a supporter of womens rights long before their current popularity. An avid student of history she was foremost a staunch Canadian and a loyal supporter of her beloved Winnipeg where she lived for 83 years. A born teacher she continually guided her beloved grandchildren with firmness and humour. Her family will cherish her wise counsel and memory forever. A graveside memorial service will be held next summer in Winnipeg. The family wishes to thank Extendicare/Saskatoon for their compassionate care.
