GEORGE DOUGLAS KNIGHT 1929 - 2000 George Knight, beloved husband of Christine, father of Douglas and Vanessa (Bill) Ezzard, grandfather of Liam, Kieran and Keeghan, died at the Grace General Hospital on Wednesday, December 6, 2000. His extended family and a host of friends will fondly remember him. George was born in Hamilton, Ont. and grew up in Fort William, Ont. He moved to Winnipeg in 1950 where he first entered the broadcasting business (CKRC). He married Christine Watt (nee Mackay) in 1954. He worked for the CBC for 25 years until his retirement in 1987. His work at the CBC included TV news, weather, Charcoal Chefs (a cooking show), radio announcer/interviewer, management and, finally, the weekend Morning Show on CBC 990. George was a proud member of Canadas Armed Forces, retiring with the rank of Major in the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. Special thanks to staff at HSC (Cardiac) and Grace Emergency and Chaplain Services, 911 responders, and friends an neighbours for their love and support. If so desired, please make donations in Georges memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society, the Salvation Army and the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 13 at 12:30 p.m. from Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. with Padre Stan Millar presiding.
