CHIN AN WU Peacefully, in his sleep, Chin An Wu passed away on December 7, 2000 at the age of 98 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Yueh - Hwai Lau of Taiwan, Terry Kuo (James), Moneca Lam (Charles), Yueh - Mei Rowan (Ed) of Virginia, Yu - Min Wu (Rea Sha) of Taiwan, Yueh - Lei Shieh (Chyi - Han), Yu - Tsai Wu (Chu - Li), June Hong (Ke-Lin) 24 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Sun - Mei Wong, son Yu - Mow Wu and daughter Yueh - In Pan. Chin An was born and raised in Miao Li, Taiwan. He married Sun - Mei and together they nurtured their ten children with much love. He proudly dedicated 45 years to the police service, with ten years as the Chief of Police of Miao Li, Taiwan. At 83, he decided to immigrate to Canada so he could be with his children. At times he would be homesick but he enjoyed learning about the different cultures and lifestyles here. Until last March he would go to "work" at his family run businesses as we teased him as being our "security guard". He was always thankful for the simple things in life. He was a deeply spiritual man who followed the teachings of Buddhism. He was interested in learning new things and loved to have discussions on virtually any subject. He was the happiest being surrounded by a captive audience, namely his family and friends. During the Second World War, as a detective on the police department, he helped many Chinese POWs escape and ensured them a safe passage back to their families. Although this eventually cost him two years of his own freedom, he never once regretted his actions. He lived an honourable life, putting others before him, treating others with great respect and appreciating those around him. This is what he has taught us. We can show him our greatest respect by living our lives as he did - with love and respect for all and forgiving those who have wronged us. We would like to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Alex Pan, the staff at St. Boniface and Victoria Hospitals who have cared for him and the home care staff that helped him at home since May. Family viewing and services will be held at Kerrs Funeral Chapel, 120 Adelaide St. on Friday, December 15 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Cremation will follow on Saturday, December 16. We are thankful that Dad/Grandpa lived such a long and healthy life. We ask that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to help others at Cancer Cancer Manitoba, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, Manitoba Chinese Senior Citizen Centre, 644 McGee, Winnipeg, MB R3E 1W8 or Chinese Buddhist Association of Manitoba, 585 Cumberland, Winnipeg, MB R3B 3M8. "Dad/Grandpa - we miss you terribly. You will live in our hearts and memories forever." KERRS FUNERAL CHAPEL in care of arrangements; phone: 943-6688.
