DAVID HARPER It is with great sadness on Thursday, December 7, 2000, at the age of 39, and after a long and courageous battle, our dearest husband, son, brother and friend passed away with his loving family at his side. David will be forever missed by his wife Susan; beloved dog Scamp; parents Don and Shirley; brothers, Wade (Lori), James (Tracy), Darren (Anissa) sister Susan Lauret (Paul) mother and father-in-law, Jeanette and Arnie Malanchuk of Dauphin; sister-in-law Amy Paterson (Blair) grandmother Margaret Selley; nieces, Lindsay, Cara and Cortney Harper, Nicole and Ayla Lauret; nephews, Colton Lauret and Jake Harper. David was predeceased by his grandparents, Frank and Jean Harper and Art Selley. David was born in Winnipeg on June 23, 1961. David attended Crestview, Hedges and John Taylor Schools before graduating with a degree in Business Administration from Red River Community College. In recent months, David was working towards a certificate in Human Resource Management in order to improve himself and his work at the Human Resources Department of the Canadian Grain Commission. On December 17, 1994, David married his best friend Susan, and two years later their beloved dog Scamp joined the family. David squeezed everything he could out of life and had an appreciation for life that most of us take for granted. Besides being a master planner and organizer of everything, David enjoyed curling, golf, fishing, board games and cycling with Susan and dog Scamp safely tucked away in the "baby" trailer. From an early age, David bravely fought C. G. D. (Chronic Granulomatous Disease) which is a rare blood related disorder. In late 1999 David participated in a life changing protocol that eventually cured him of the disease. His stem cell transplant was performed by the fine doctors at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 12, at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. A reception for family and friends will follow the service in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. The family wishes to send a heartfelt thank-you to doctors Lyle McDonald and B. B. Fast of Winnipeg and doctors Gallin, Holland and Horwitz as well as nurses Dirk of N. I. H. in Bethesda, Maryland. Flowers are gratefully declined. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations can be made to The Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg Man., R2L 1X3.
