VICKI KARON FRANCIS It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Vicki Francis on Friday, December 8, at the Victoria Hospital. Vicki is survived by her husband, Peter and children, Megan and Liam. She also leaves friend Dan Paseska; brother Barrie and wife Jean; sister-in-law Irene and husband Gordon and nephews, Randy, Rodney, Richard, Robert, Daniel, and Jeffrey and nieces, Kim, Karen, Kandyce, and Carol and their families, as well as many dear friends. Vicki was born in Regina, Sask., and attended school in Regina and Saskatoon. She graduated with an Arts degree and a Diploma in Education from the University of Saskatchewan in 1969. She and Peter were married in 1969 in Saskatoon and moved to Winnipeg. Vicki became a teacher in the Fort Garry School Division and maintained ties with the Division until 1988. She also taught at Balmoral Hall from 1989 to 1994. Vicki taught a variety of subjects but her real love and expertise were in drama. She was able to encourage and sustain a love of drama and theatre in her students and give them the confidence to showcase their talents onstage. Her creative genius was to transform a meaningful issue or a student idea to a poignant and sensitive presentation. Many of her students have been inspired to become successful professional actors. Vicki obtained a Masters Degree in Education (Drama) from the University of Manitoba. She presented many drama workshops throughout Manitoba during her teaching tenure. Vicki loved to travel and spent two years of full time travel with her husband in Europe and an additional year with Peter and the children in Asia. Several trips to New York and the Maritimes with the family were also highlights. Recently, her love has been her prairie home and garden and her unmanageable Airedales in Brunkild, Man. Always with a wonderful sense of humour that was light, forgiving, and slightly off-centre, she fostered for many years a supportive and warm family environment. A great lover of flowers, and still with a sense of humour, she hoped that "in lieu of donations, flowers could be sent." "nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands." Special thanks to Doctor Permack, specialists, and the nurses and staff at Victoria Hospital for their care. Cremation has taken place and a service will be held on Tuesday, December 12 at 4:00 p.m. at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the family home in Brunkild at 7:30 p.m. BARDAL FUNERAL HOME 843 Sherbrook Street, 774-7474
